Another cruise ship in trouble
According to the Independent on line the Norwegian Pearl has had to spend an additional night in Barcelona, miss ports of call, cancel next cruise, and cannot sail at full speed.
The problems are technical (no details) that's the second cruise ship in a matter of weeeks that appears to have suffered from the same technical issue.
Me suspects inherent design problem.

Re: Another cruise ship in trouble
Assuming she has diesel electric propulsion I sometimes wonder if these ships have sufficient generating capacity to run all the hotel services, navigation, propulsion etc and still be able to fulfill all those requirements even if one genset is out of commission due to major overhaul. The one diesel electric ship I was one could happily operate at full capacity with one genset out for major overhaul.

Re: Another cruise ship in trouble
John, remember looking at the total generating capacity for one of these cruise ships.
It had two 7mw and two 5mw alternators. Full speed required 14mw, hotel load 5mw, spare capacity 5mw.
If one of the 7mw is out for servicing ship cannot maintain full sea speed and hotel load.
As they say all fur coat and no knickers.
