Thats as i remember it Mike, a forest of derricks, nose to tail ships, and each one of them full of seamen. I had occasion to go up in that area after 50 years, an area i knew well, this time like on another planet, high rise everywhere, kt

    Keith,
Its the airport runway that gets me.I never understood why.
I go that way a bit as I only live 30 miles away from the docks.
These docks used to be my base.(pool).

The last time I was there was in the early 90's, I used to go to an annual event called The Ship Show, it was a big indoor
market for MN memorabilia of all sorts, it was held at Westminster. On the way home I decided to have a last look at the
docks and got on the Docklands Light Railway at Fenchurch Street station, in a way I wish I had not as it was so different
to how we knew it to be, the Excel exhibition building in the old Victoria Dock, housing in the Albert and of course the
City Airport in the old KGV Dock, the only place that was the same as I remembered it was the Connaught pub near to
the Albert Dock gates but sadly the dockers that drank there are all gone and the place looked deserted, no Idea what
it's like today. I got all my ships from the Shipping Federation Office that was situated between the KGV and Albert Docks
if I remember rightly, I wonder Mike, do you have a picture of that building in the Gallery?, I'd love to see that again, cheers

I was last there in 2005. I could not believe what I was looking at, As Mike said the City Airport between the Albert & KGV, took these photos.

I think anyone who had not known these Docks in their heyday could never visualise just what they were like, we are truly fortunate to
be able to recall the sights and the sounds and the atmosphere, it's the same story for most of our great Docks around the the UK,
proud to have been a little part of their history, cheers.

Characterless and sterile is how I would describe it now.
