TV Tonight
Channel 5 is showing (again) the Battle of Britain, an excellent film.
The wife is watching, and enjoying, I told her it was the first film I showed (helped) at sea.
I joined the SA VAAL, she sailed Friday, I was instructed to help the third Electrician to show The Battle of Britain to the passengers and learn the ropes so I could go solo.
The film was enjoyable, whilst the Spitfires were shooting down the Hun, I was involved in my own battle, fighting cockroaches, they were everywhere, crawling up the viewing screens. It was the first time that I had come across these insects and it wouldn't be the last.
Oh happy days.
Vic
PS if my memory serves me correctly, showing films to passengers was not considered as part of a Leckies job, therefore the sum of £2 was paid.

Re: TV Tonight
It might not of have been the Sparkies job, but I sailed with a Sparkie, Neville Smart from Bath/Bristol?, who was a keen video camera man. He did some excellent work and edited the shots he got into full length films. He had one that was spliced from 5 different Christmases on at least 2 different ships. When on the Pacific Reliance, the Master had him show his films to the passengers and I think he got paid in drinks. A great shipmate.

Re: TV Tonight
Hello Vic.
Reading this reminded me of the day I joined my first ship, the "Gothic". i had never seen a cockroach.
I opened the first drawer and they came "over the top" by the dozen like soldiers of WW1..
Regards.
Frank.

Re: TV Tonight
Come to Oz, we have billions of them and so easy to find.
But the common belief that they are dirty is wrong.
My cat catches them and eats them, thinks they are very tasty.
Happy daze John in Oz.
