Seems familiar doesn't it
A Croatian shipyard is looking to China to save it as it's government refused it any help, which sounds a bit like what happened to our yards.

Re: Seems familiar doesn't it
Hi John
An article on yesterdays paper on China's lending to many countries has said that in only one place did the Chinese take over a bad dept, and that was in Colombo where a Chinese Company took over a port there, most of their dept's have been renegotiated; many on good terms for the borrower. The only bad one in my eyes is that a Liberal Govt minister gave a Chinese Company a 99 year lease of port Darwin in the Northern Territory, mind you he got a good job out of it with the Company.
cheers Des

Re: Seems familiar doesn't it
Like so many other industries it all comes down to costs.
Some years ago the motor vehicle manufacturing industry was common inmost western nations, now reduced to just 15 of them.
In a similar fashion the ship building industry has been reduced to a hand full of countries.
Most of which, South Korea and China are good examples, wages are that much lower.
Also countries without trade unions, countries where you work or die, no gov assistance there.
Maybe the West brought about it's own demise in this industry with cost blow outs and time delays.

Happy daze John in Oz.

So that is why they Tax my miserable MN Pension.

Re: Seems familiar doesn't it
Probably best thing to happen, as local pollies waste most of the tax money. Offshore money is only way to keep up and expand.
