I am off in two weeks round the world again and have been on the same ship three times before, and see the same people every time, It has a British Captain, a man of experience, he started with Union Castle, and when he was a cadet on the GOOD HOPE CASTLE the ship burned and had to abandon ship, He spent three days in a lifeboat before landing on Ascension Island, So an experience British Master.
I would not spend my money after a lifetime at sea on Rubbish ships like the Carnival ones.
If you cruise, choose your ship, Company and itinerary carefully and it is a great way to go back to sea and enjoy the atmosphere without having to work,
Tho` I do turn to sometimes to get the feel of the old days again.
I also have spliced a few ropes while on the ship.
Note ,.... the decks are empty. not a lot of people, very spacious and comfortable.
Sure beats the hell out of two weeks stuck in a hotel in Benedorm.
Holidays Brian, Remember,

Well Brian, maybe they would be the first to fly off if she rolled over, might include a trip down to see the Titanic, endless possibilities.
Cheers Des

Thank god I served my time at sea in more civilised times :)

Sounds a bit like P&O Australia, real budget class cruising great for those who want to spend all their time at the bar.
Some of the crew have told me about the conditions for them on some of the cruise lines, maybe that is why Princess and Royal Caribbean have a waiting list of crew wanting to join them.
Re: Roller coaster on carnival ship/.
I think that 11 and 1/2 Days cruising down to Cape Town on luxurious old style Union Castle liners where's about where I never want to be when it comes to cruising and the entertainment was probably totally boring today's modern people promenading around the deck deck quois ,crossing the line drinking hot bullion whilst lounging on a steamer chair . When you consider the ferry run with a few hours across to France we are all kinds of gaming tables gaming machines and everything you could imagine do entertain the passengers then the company had a brainstorm an employee and entertainment management company they had some wonderful suggestions including table tennis tables and snooker all pool tables so I think the Old traditional is where I would ever want to be

Rob, you would not believe the number of activities on board now, from 0700 hours to well into the wee small hours there is something going on.
Some are a bit odd such as the knitters corner, or the GLBTIQ meeting available for those who want them.
Keep fit, how to cook it is all there all day for those who want it.
The casino is open 24 hours when at sea but closed in port as is the case with all the on board shops.
