So because of the wrongs that went on well over 25 years ago you are happy to see a company close and the remaining work force lose their jobs!!!!
Thank you for your comment. Harland and Wolff went out of business because it couldn't compete in a world market just like the Clyde and Tyne yards. The legacy of Harland & Wolff is good shipbuilding and rampant discrinination. Take a ride through Ballymacarrat on the 11th of July night and see their legacy for yourself. Belfast is becoming a beautiful city and movie studios, Financial & Tech services are more desirable than heavy industry.
When it came to dockyards particularly for refits and dry dockings I think the death knell was sounded by the end of the 60s largely because of the restrictive practices imposed by different unions the boilermakers and they hate relationship with the amalgamated engineers they couldn't work properly together and certainly good work with the management of these dry docks
When I was with gulf oil I did the first drydock that I'd ever done in Holland and couldn't believe how refreshingly co-operative everybody was with each other
I'm a great believer in unionisation but I think there was a period in the 60s where the unions exercised their power and it was not for the good of the country
