Thanks for this - I have unearthed some more documents that show that by 1958 he was Captain of the Trevethoe until July 11th at which time he was relieved in order to "...be present at Buckingham Palace on Thursday next the 17th instant" (no idea what that was about!) following which he was to join the Tremeadow as coastal Relief Master. He then apparently retired on December 8th at which time he was Captain of the Tregothnan.

Hugh, as you are probably aware, all the Hains steamship were named after Cornish villages, apparently by his wife. While i was in Cornwall 2 years ago, i made a point of driving to the village of Treworlas, however not much to see, just a few houses, and a very small timber village hall, kt

Indeed - thanks. As they say "By Tre-, Pol-, and Pen-, shall ye know all Cornishmen" - I believe these are prefixes referring to "Settlement or Homestead", "Pool or Lake", and "Head" (as in headland)

I thought early on that all Hain ships were Tre - ships but,
later found though this seems the norm, they did begin in
    naming in a different way.

    Hi Hugh.
I spent my first two years at sea on the Trevose, Capt D Spencer, from 49 to 52 best ship I was ever on, always a good crew .
    Cheers Des

I joined the Treworlas in Birkenhead in 1959 and was on the helm when she stranded on the Madirah Reef Persian Gulf in 1960.
