Scottish Borders Council
Scottish Borders Council - Appeal for Merchant Navy Day civic reception Borderers who have previously or currently serve in the Merchant Navy are being asked to contact us ahead of a special reception to honour their services. Merchant Navy Day is held on 3 September every year to honour the brave men and women who kept Britain afloat during both World Wars, and also celebrate the importance of modern day merchant seafarers. We will hold a civic reception on the same day (3 September) at our HQ to mark the occasion and is seeking to invite any local former members of the Merchant Navy or current members to the event. Our Convener, Councillor David Parker “The Merchant Navy was given its name exactly 100 years ago at the end of World War I, with King George V acknowledging their efforts in providing supplies to Britain. “With this special anniversary, we felt it was appropriate to mark the efforts of our local personnel and would request any Borders seafarers to get in contact with us so we can invite you to the reception.” How to get in touch Any Merchant Navy personnel from the Borders wishing to come along should phone 01835 826571 or contact Councillor Sandy Aitchison.Contact details

Re: Scottish Borders Council
A similar request:
Hi there,
My name is Ed Davies and I am the Admin Assistant at Pembrey and Burry Port
Town Council. We are organising a flag-raising ceremony on 30th August to
raise the Red Ensign over the town in advance of Merchant Navy day on 3rd
September. We are inviting a number of local groups and organisations to
attend the ceremony and would dearly love to extend that invitation to any
of the Merchant Navy Association members who are resident in the area.
Thank you for your time
Yours sincerely
Ed Davies
