Default DUWK sinks with loss of life.

I see one of those DUWCKs has sunk in America drowning some of its passengers.

They are death traps as far as I am concerned - especially those they had in Liverpool's Royal Albert Dock - they sank in dock, the ones in America actually operate in deep water, they should be banned from carrying passengers.

When one door closes another one shuts, it must be the wind

Why are people still allowed to be put to water in conditions not suited to the craft?

Looking at the footage on the television that was a very choppy Lake to set out on but they did say it can turn quite rapidly from calm to a vicious water although there was a warning in place that the weather was about to change and there was life jackets on board for each person . I just don't think the d u k w s are that seaworthy

Apparently not the first time they have had problems with this craft.
Some bodies pulled out were not wearing life jackets.

Storm front swept in very suddenly by all accounts.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

the captain{driver} of the DUKWS told his passengers not to put on life jackets a big why should be said and a lot of why's should be asked? the first thing why did the company not listen to the weather forecast was this just like another fairground ride to make money? jp

We were talking about this on board tonight. The thought was he didn't want people putting them on inside trapping them as it sank but to wait and maybe that was misunderstood..

I helped to refurbish one at So. Shields Tech. belonged to one of lecturers.
They were only designed to cross rivers and possibly as landing craft, not as something converted to look like a floating green house, am guessing inadequate escape access also.

They used to have one working off the beach in Whitley Bay in 1948. Taking passengers to St. Mary’s lighthouse and back. Must have been long gone before Brian visited the Rex As could have taken his beloved for a midnight cruise. Incidentally Brian the Rex is being converted into flats. Possibly for old people Nows the time if you want to pick up the strings of a past life. I also stayed in a boarding house which was next door to the old Avenue Pub on the seafront, the landlady was originally from Lancashire but had been in The trade in Whitley Bay for 40 years or so. Said she had made her money from RN and MN seafarers who were put up and paid for by various shipping companies and the MOD. Very attractive and interesting lady. Being the gentleman I am I didn’t mention your name however.. cheers JS

42 DEAD IN DUCK BOAT ACCIDENTS SINCE 1999

At least 42 people have died in duck boat-related incidents since the land-to-water vehicles became tourist attractions in the late 90s.

May 1, 1999 - 13 dead after a duck boat sank in Lake Hamilton in Arkansas
June 23, 2002 - Four dead after a duck boat sinks in the Ottawa River near Parliament Hill in the Canadian capital
July 7, 2010 - Ride the Ducks boat overrun by a barge after engine fire, killing two
April 29, 2015 - Duck boat collides with motor scooter in Boston, killing a 29-year-old woman
May 8, 2015 - Woman killed after being hit by a Ride the Ducks boat while crossing the street in Philadelphia
September 24, 2015 - Ride the Ducks boat hits bus carrying school students in Seattle, killing four
July 19, 2018 - Ride the Ducks boat capsizes in Table Rock lake, Missouri, killing 17 and making it the deadliest duck boat accident

    'They should be completely outlawed.'
