    Default Sir Richard Attenborough

The research ship the Sir Richard Attenborough is being launched at Camell Lairds Shipyard at 12.20pm today. Good Luck to her and all who sail on her.

Why does the Press - and others- insist on using that stupid BMcBF name.?
We are all proud of Sir David Attenborough; a wonderful Naturalist and Environmentalist who has woken the UK up to the overuse of plastics. Let's hope the rest of the world takes note.

Last year, the Natural Environment Research Council launched a campaign for people to vote on names for the £200m vessel.

The name “Boaty McBoatface” topped the poll - but the Government instead decided to name it after Sir David.

Boaty McBoatface lives on in the form of a yellow submarine. The National Oceanography Centre in Southampton has three long-range autonomous underwater vehicles. When one of these is out on patrol, it carries the humorous moniker.

The intention is that these Boaty-class subs will frequently operate from the Attenborough. They will be asked to go into places the ship itself cannot reach, such as under the colossal floating ice shelves that surround Antarctica.

The Government got it right this time, as you say Brenda "We are all proud of Sir David Attenborough".

    Keith.

    At the time:

Boaty McBoatface was the runaway winner with 124,109 votes. The second most popular choice, Poppy-Mai, had 34,371. Nerc said that according to its competition rules it would have the final say on any name.

The name “Boaty McBoatface” topped the poll - but the Government instead decided to name it after Sir David.

The Government got it right this time.

That really all there was to it.

When I was thinking about social media and the lunacy that created the boaty mcboatface name I was listening to Radio One evening a couple of months ago and they were talking about the campaign created to stop the winner of the X Factor getting the Christmas number one record as a slap in the face to Simon Cowell the problem was that the clever people who did it picked another record to promote and successfully promoted it they didn't bother checking who the music producer and the record label was because they picked a Simon Cowell record meaning that he had both records at the top of the charts and the social media rebellion against him actually earned him a lot more money
