#86 Thanks Fouro. Obviously Jessica doesn’t want to know. Either by her own incilinations or others. No skin off my nose. Unless of course she thinks I have scurvy also, and should. be buried at sea. All I was doing was offering literature or copies of, from that time which were not press related. They also had a copy of a Masters FG steamship on display in another cabinet dated 1968 , there are those on site who could supply ones much earlier than this. That’s what museums are for isn’t it , to display the past, the further back the better. Your original post has run a long voyage and hope some of those interested may have gleaned a bit more knowledge not fabricated by newspaper reports. Will be getting the title of the Donald’s Trump apprentice if go on like this, but was preaching his views long before he was. Cheers JWS

The other vessels of similar standard I was on of the same ownership were the Tamito, Ondur, Deventel, Penomi, Nautika,
And another one can’t remember name at moment as she collapsed halfway through the trip and was lucky to make it back. Cheers JS. PS just remembered the name of one I forgot was the Famita. North Star bought her and put a new engine in and put her back to work. The rumoured amount they paid for her was 80,000 pounds scrap value I would reckon. Cheers JWS.

What a sad and poignant poem, but to the point, thanks for posting it.

Fouro, think the author was a young fellow we picked up. My sightings of most of the survivors were when they were coming on board and when they were going off , so didn’t see him as such during the few hours they were on board. However let me say I am pleased he still shows some sensibilities of the event and don’t think he was physically hurt apart from the mental scars. I don’t wish to go into a diatribe of the event as previously just making a remark seemed to upset someone, still don’t know why , whatever it was it was the truth from my point of view. My contribution to the event was put on here through the good auspices of Vernon as I didn’t know how . If I
remember correctly I wrote it about 2008 before I started forgetting the essential facts. I had it on the computer and decided it was suitable for being read by seafarers so sent it to Vernon to censor if needs be and make it available. I have no wish to point the finger at others and no wish to play up others actions , unless of course they want to make any issues with, My own actions and those of my crew I will back up until kingdom come , others can fight their own battles. The ones who did the most shouting I believe later , were the ones who got an early reprieve and were off the platform within the first 15 minutes. I have no wish to disclose who they were , but to me they were very lucky, most survivors do suffer a sense of guilt I am told as feel they should also have perished, let me state one clear fact however which is never mentioned , the 16 men involved in the initial rescues were as much survivors as some of the survivors themselves, two of them had to give their lives to prove it. As I am still supposed to give a talk to a group of business people about life at sea, and no doubt it will get round to the piper alpha , which I have no real wish to talk about , I will copy the poem and read out, I am sure the author won’t mind. That together with Brian’s poem about all the girls left behind should just about cover enough ground for anyone’s appetite of knowledge of a seaman’s life. If you do know any of the survivors Fouro it would be still nice to know who was the first one picked up off the leg within the first 10 minutes , he was dressed to the nines and of mid eastern appearance.
