The M.A.I.B. have published its report into the grounding of the Islay Trader
    https://www.gov.uk/maib-reports/grou...l-islay-trader
In a nut shell, insufficient cable laid out initially, mate did not keep proper anchor watch, only realised vessel had dragged when contacted by VTS, did not call master, attempted to shift position and re-anchor himself, got lost, went aground.

I noticed one photo caption says 'vessel is carrying a cargo of broken glass' if she wasn't, she is now!

Veering off, Ivan's comment regarding the Islay Trader's cargo of broken glass, reminded me that we would often see a pile of broken glass build up on the quay at Ellesmere Port awaiting export. Apparently it is a good earning cargo. It, a bit like scrap metal in steel manufacturing, it is melted down and recycled into more glass products.

When working in the food industry all the glass that was broken or too dirty to reuse was all put in a skip as Collett and returned buy a company which I think was called Berryman to a glass plant near Manchester I believe there is quite good money in it
