    Is there intelligent life in shipping?
    Came across this today, originally on LinkedIn, hope the link opens as by gosh does the author not speak the truth.

    What an excellent article, its a pity those in shipping company power probably wont get to read it. Mind you if perhaps they do, they would probably ignore it. Profits and bonuses are top of the list as they always have been, not the poor sailors, they are just the pawns in a very big game of chess.

    So true and the numbers continue to decline as more ships find ways of the need for less and less crew.

    My last outfit used to ensure that all the shore staff in our European fleet did a trip with us so as they could experience first hand what we onboard actually experienced when carrying out the voyage orders they sent us.
    In the article the guy hit the nail on the head when talking about shore staff. The big problem with sea staff these days are that the seafarers of today that are in senior positions and who maybe the next to move into shore positions are ISM controlled where seamanship, common sense and experience have been replaced by a checklist that is the first thing they refer to when carrying out even the most mundane of every day tasks.
