Hi John.
I used to wonder on building sites why machine operators used to keep their machines running when stopped for smoko, they said that it was more efficient to run it than to stop and then start it cold.Bit the same as the trucks when they deliver they keep them running.

Very true Des, diesel once running is far more efficient than any petrol engine.

In our BC Interior, it is usual to see cars left running while people shop etc.
Also they have to be plugged into 'Block Heaters' over night.
Most, if not all, also have remote starts.
Thankfully not the case here on the coast.

A TOXIC gas cloud which put 150 in hospital was most likely caused by a ship a report says.But it added that the compositionof the haze on the Sussex coast last August last year remains unclear.People complained of burning eyes,nausea and difficulty breathing.The Dept.fo the Enviroment said it may have been an accidental release or from cleaning.But containers lost overboard and wrecks could also be to blame.

A diesel once running and on full load is a more efficient engine than a petrol engine, a diesel idling is choking itself to death, along with those nearby.
A naturally aspirated diesel engine will need more down time for maintenance than a turbo charged diesel engine .
Diesel engines as a rule are more reliable than a petrol engine but do require more maintenance than a Petrol engine, as in oil and filter changes. But due to the introduction of synthetic oils a modern diesel can now go between 15,000/20,000 miles.
These ECO boost 3 cylinder Petrol engines seem to be all the rage, yes they are good but to me the faster an engine revs the sooner it will wear out, regard less of how well it is looked after. You have a petrol engine sitting at 70 mph pumping round at 4000/4500 RPM, a diesel doing the same speed will be running at 2500/2750 max RPM Logic dictates there will be less wear and tear on the diesel, but if you want clean and less emissions LPG cars are even cleaner again and in reality should only need an oil & Filter change about every 30,000/40,000 miles.
