Find myself agreeing Lewis, man has it inbuilt into him to protect the female species no matter how capable the female may be, on the ground in a front line situation a wounded male may be neglected (and lost) in order to save an already dead female body falling into the hands of the enemy, it's part of being a human having animal instincts of protecting the weaker (allegedly) sex, although some of the female amazons now walking around could give a good account of themselves.Quote:

Lewis as I have already said my own views re women on ships. There are no doubt a certain type of woman capable of taking a life as well as a man. Personally myself. I would not like to have as a partner if an infantry soldier as know would still have a feeling of protecting the what I will always call the weaker sex. Thus prohibiting and maybe putting my own capabilities at stake. Maybe the training and phsyco. Corrections to this attitude maybe able to reduce don't know. But I would have an aversion to putting any females life in danger. As said I prefer my women feminine. JWS
many women in afghan shot and killed the enemy ....personally i would in todays world be quite happy with a seving female by my side .....they did shoot and kill many in afghan etc ...women pilots also did the killing bit ...as for the female being caught and raped ...i believe a big fear of the male pilots in the iraqu war was the same as it was used as a method of getting info ...

Very interesting, because 25 years ago all the points being brought up here was almost exactly the argument against women firefighters, would men want to protect them, could they do the job, how would they cope with mangled bodies etc etc, i must admit for a time i had my doubts, but today women firefighters do a good job. I don't have any figures to quote, but i can assure you, at some point women firefighters would have been wearing BA, inside the Grenville tower block and carrying out the same tasks as the guys. Just my take on it, although in my time at sea 50-60s we did not have female crew except on liners, as least that i know of, kt
thats an interesting situation to look at in the case of women and men in danger together keith .....must say i only made that mistake once ...sailing of west coast of scotland with a female astra master yachtee and her husband she was on the fordeck when this large green one apeared as we tried to bring the forsail down......i grabbed her and the mast ...after it was over and we were suitably soaked ...she gave me a dressing down in sailors language about trying to look after her ...but the that was because i did think ah feminine but soon learnt by her retort ...i would truly think that in the armed forces ie infantry the each would look after each other the same .....cappy
