    and compliment of paasengers.
One of the passengers received a Dear John telegram as the ship left Cape Town, The guy was distraught and never slept in his cabin, preferring to sleep on deck, only showing himself to the Cabin Steward early in the morning.
Amongst the passengers were a crowd of South African Youths whose main aim was to cause as much problems as possible.
One night after midnight the young officer of the watch was doing his rounds, he spotted the youths climbing the aft Samson posts and diving into the pool. He advised them against such a folly, they then threatened him with an entry in the big pool. A Bosun’s mate spotted the altercation and intervened. He warned the youths that life would not be worth living if the touched the O.O.W.
The youths threatened the Bandsmen and were again warned any harm and they would suffer.
They also were caught trying to set a Cabin on fire to see if the sprinklers worked.
The ship arrived in Las Palmas for bunkers and some shore time for the passengers.
The day after departing Las Palmas, the cabin steward announced his passenger was missing after explaining his nuances a thorough search of the ship was carried out-no passenger.
The ship retraced her steps and with las Palmas showing on the Radar, the cry from the bow was man overboard. The ship stopped in less than one nautical mile, the passenger was brought aboard suffering de-hydration and severe sunburn.
The S.A. youths were in a state of panic and unsure what they should do.
A guard was placed at the hospital door to ensure the passenger was protected.
The S.A. youths were due to travel back on the next voyage, we learned that they had been summoned to Cayzer House where they received the return portion of their return trip and were effectively banned from B&C ships.
