RNLI in trouble again in Whitby.
At Christmas two of the crew swapped mugs as presents. The mugs had an image of a semi naked female on them, the two guys superimposed their on mugshots on female images.
A visiting manager found the mugs in a cupboard, both men were ordered to remove the mugs, they refused, both were sacked in a telephone call.
The result that other members of the crew have resigned in protest.
The manager quoted the mugs could be deemed offensive if children spotted them whilst on a tour. Apparently no one visits the lifeboat house, they all visit the museum.

I am all for political correctness although I must admit that throughout my working life I avoided it like banana skins and the plague but there is a time when you get such a petty response . Any sensible manager would have said keep an eye on it lads make sure they never out on display , a really sensible one would have got a couple of really nice RNLI mugs and offered to swap them for the offensive ones this is the problem when you have an assertive management probably with little experience

Rob, certain aspects of PC are over the top, as you say no common sense used.
    Just knee jerk reactions.

Lewis, the BBC got the story right, the coxswain Bill Farquahar was married to my cousin who lives in Scrabster, he was an ex merchant seaman, sadly he has since died, he had won many awards , but they did pull the coastal tanker to freedom

#13 Vic does it not make you wonder at times the hypocracy of some people which today is generally is everyone. Nothing is said about gay Mardi Gras and people flaunting their half naked and in some cases totally naked bodies in front of children, and yet put your face on a mug and all Hell is let let loose. People talk about law and order and for a lot of heiinuous crimes the judges hand out idiotic sentences. People get prosecuted for events of 50 years ago and probably. Remember them as groping offences and forgot about them shortly after happening. It would be laughable if it wasn’t so serious. JWS

Problem is with RNLI the majority of the administration have never served on a lifeboat, or been to sea have no idea what camaraderie is all about, but know their rule book back to front and like all people who live by the rule book put their own interpretation on its contents. There have been some flare ups down in the Southwest between the 'volunteer' crews and the 'paid' management, the management knowing that the volunteers are unlikely to resign en-masse because they consider their voluntary job as a 'calling' and not a job and management take advantage of this, but some have resigned in disgust about treatment of their colleagues. Although the RNLI is run on voluntary contributions it has become a business run by accountants and the HO in Poole has some very costly cars in the management carpark and probably nice pension funds and expense accounts to run them.

A well known footballer here, no longer playing, was in the act of getting his leg over with a very nice looking female.
Some how it was filmed, no one can say by whom.

Couple of years later it appears on Facebook, what a surprise there, and now he attempting to take legal action against who ever posted it.

If you do not want such posted do not film it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Bill, Please don't think I was criticising, I thought as usual it may have been incorrectly reported. Hell of a powerful Life boat though, a very brave man indeed him and his crew. If he has not long died sadly he must have been a young man as a cox on a life boat has to stand down as boat crew at the age of 55.
