Small world John, Lordship lane brings back memories of a young lad going to visit his grand parents in that area.
As to home made bombs, my mate got the ingredients from the local chemist and put it in short lengths of gas pipes with screw ends.
cap on the end, small hole drilled in the pipe and a slow burning fuse from a hard fuel craft plane he had.
Light it and get the hell away, when it went off the neighbors always thought it was a bomb.
Where he got so much pipe from I never asked, just enjoyed the times.

Chris when you say Northumberland are you referring to the real Northumberland or the nostalgic one of today the abonomation of Tyne and Wear. To a ‘ lot of strangers they wonder where the Tyne and Where? Came from. JS
