Seaforth Docks.

Lovely and clean, but soul less, not more walking passing various sheds with their myriad of smells from around the world to assault your nostrils, and some really did assault you, especially the hide sheds

Agree with you, walking down the down road from Bootle to the city centre you could smell the world. Grain, timber, sugar, fruit, molasses, coffee, rum, the cargos from worldwide and seamen of all nationalities. All things come to an end but Liverpool has picked itself up from the dark days and is once more is an international, proud modern city .

I will send the link to my son in Portsmouth, He was at Liverpool Royal University Hospital as a Student and as a Doctor, also Five Ways Roundabout, that is where he wrecked my car in a collision with another car when he was a Student there,

Birkenhead Park Where after paying off , had a few bevies, took my new girl friend in there on a hot sunny Sunday afternoon , fell asleep and woke up at 3am cold and damp and alone in the darkness, I never saw her again.

Used to frequent a pub in Seaforth Docks.Can't remember the name, but it was really rough.
Don't suppose that narrows it down, as most of them were back in the 50ies & 60ies.
For some strange reason I do recall the following.
We would take the silver paper out of a cigarette box and shape it into the likes of a trophy cup.
Then chew the white paper and place it into the base of the cup.
We would then throw it up to the deck head where it would stick in place.
Thank goodness the after hours were more exciting.
As a rule there was always a few Norwegian seaman in the place.
Have memories of some going out for a knee trembler and the girl coming back alone.
Some of her male friends had rolled him.
All in all. A good place to spend the evening.

You just burst a bubble in my head. I remember going to the Coradoc when I was an SOS And warning my mate about going out with any of the girls, in those days their minders used to carry blades in their caps.
Other than that had a good time if you kept your nose clean.

Like so many docks around the world, when the container came in the soul of them went out.
It is now as said so clinical and turn around times so quick.
We did see, and smell, the very best of it and memories will live on as long as we do.

Have you been watching that TV show Des Peaky Blinders where the gangsters had blades in their peak caps.?I don't think many girls had pimps or minders in the Caradoc as it was a family pub as well I don't think pimps would've been very welcome.
