Merchant Navy - Registers of Seamen/Service (Seamen)

1973 - 1999

No records are available from the Registry of Shipping and Seamen, as after 1973, the Registrar General was no longer required by legislation to keep records of individual seafarers.

Hello Robert and welcome,

You should try and obtain your father's CRS 10 - service record from joining the MN until 1972. The file, if it has survived will be held at The National Archives Kew in piece BT 382/3077. Best obtained by visit to Kew or via a researcher. As stated the file will end at 1972 unfortunately.

The CRS 10 should give all his MN service from 1949 until 1972. For service prior to that in the Royal Navy you need to obtain his service records from the Ministry of Defence - details here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/request-...vice-personnel

#18... I was on the Rosewood in 1973. Give me time and will look up to confirm in Discharge book. Have 3 of them in various states of wear and tear. J.S.
Rosewood 11.2. 72 to 6.6.72.
Rosewood 7.7.72 to 5.7.72 ..... Skipper must have been drunk
Rosewood 6.5.75 to 8.8.75
The Rosewood was one of John I Jacobs vessels a predominately Tanker company but had 2 ore carriers and a bulk carrier (Rosewood). She was sold to the Greeks and handed over in 8.8.75.
I may not have been on the Rosewood in 73 as following on from the mistake in book of 5.7.72. The following entry is 27.1.73 ( in another book) to 7.5.73 on the Cherrywood, so if on the Rosewood in 73 would only have been for a few days in 73. Was there any mention by your relation of an attempted murder on the Rosewood where the master was stabbed, as coming back to Rotterdam from the west coast of Africa the ship was cleared out except for the second engineer and myself. Months later there was a successful murder on the vessel and that would have been in 73. If you go to the page on site My worse Christmas at sea written by someone on the ship at the time, you might get lucky. At the occurrence of the murder a Captain Jacotine was in command who I knew very well, he used to live in Norfolk, but tried over the years to make contact unsuccessfully he was the master there in 1973 for most of that period.
