#11, It doesn't matter how many time's you watch the horrors of WW1 on the old documentaries you can't know the agony's
those men actually experienced, "you can only think you know". Dads brother, my uncle Chris joined up in 1914 at the age of
24, I have 4 photo's of him the first is as a fresh faced young man in his brand new army uniform 1914, the others are photo's
from various stages of the war with his regiment, in each photo he is beginning to look a different man in the end he looks
haggard and about 50 years old, he was killed in Flanders 1918 immediately before the end of the war. My great uncle Tom
Donald Collier an aircraft mechanic was killed when HMS Hermes was torpedoed in the Dover Strait in 1914, they were my
granddads son and young brother. They both left young families, as you say cappy a very sad "there is no glory in war" cheers JC

In WW2 67,200 civilians were killed by the Bombing by Germans.
In WW2 383,700 Military were killed. a total of 450,900 lives lost.
I don't know how many Politicians were killed.

So we must also not forget the civilians who were also killed in WW2.
A total of nearly half a Million British people killed in a war caused by Politicians.
    When will they ever learn.?

#14, Our house was very badly damaged by a doodlebug that killed 17 people in the houses next to ours, we were lucky and no one was killed, although I was only about five years old I can remember it clearly, I know your house was also bombed
Brian they are horrible memories to have. JC

My maternal grandfather was a dispatch rider in WWI. He went to France as a young man of eighteen and returned home and the conclusion of the war with white hair, not grey, but white. What horrors he must have seen traveling between fronts bearing dispatches.

As usual the 'red duster' flies (in front of my house) along side the 'stars and stripes' today, and for the balance of the weekend.
