Default Marine Jobs in the Oil and Gas industry

First of all, glad to join the Marine community here.

I have found that the best way to get started in the oil and gas industry is to begin by having a look at an oil & gas specific job board and seeing which roles are available. In my opinion, it's important to use a job board as you maximize the number of jobs in one place, and avoid missing any great opportunities...saves you time endlessly scanning the internet for the best jobs! The oil & gas job board at the moment with the most jobs listed is www.oilandgasbestjobs.com so it may be worth giving that a try as a starting point. Once you have a good idea of the type of jobs which are available for your skills, tailor your resume to emphasize the points which would be relevant. Then simply start sending your resume off for the jobs you like the look of (you just need to register/upload your CV once and you can apply for as many jobs as you like).

    I hope this helps!

Default Re: Marine Jobs in the Oil and Gas industry

Charlotte opened up your www. am sure it will be of interest to new or nearly new starters to the Industry. Myself spent about 23 years in vessels appertaining to the oil industry. However find the job description of Master and Mate somewhat like teaching your Granny how to suck eggs. Anyone hoping for a position as master or mate in my days would not have to be told in writing his duties, if he didn't already know them I can see no point in him applying for such positions. However I suppose today things are different and must go along with the tide. I found in the oil Industry the same as most regular shipping that promotion came with experience and your own capabilities. I suppose in todays politically correct world everything has to be in writing for self preservation to both boss and worker, and mutual trust is a thing of the past. Thanks for your input and no doubt you will get applications through your additions to the site. It is still hard to realize that the UK has to advertise for Merchant Seamen, when not so long back they were in plentiful supply. Regards JWS
