British ex Army Soldiers inprisioned in India
Some of you may be aware of the 6 British ex Army men who were providing security on board ships transiting the piracy area off Somalia were arrested (illegally) when their mother ship strayed into Indian territorial waters (disputed). Despite being cleared by all charges by the Indian courts it is now 1000 days since their arrest and there is still no sign of them being allowed home. Here is an update on the petition to the U.K. government to get the release of these men.

Re: British ex Army Soldiers inprisioned in India
New Year 2001. I was temporary relieving for a few weeks as a mate on the Ramform Challenger a Norwegian Seismic state of the art Seismic vessel, due to the mate paying off sick. We were working off the NE part of the Singapore straits, as this was also a well known pirate area. We employed armed guards who I assumed were Indonesian soldiers. Maybe they were independent soldiers of fortune or whatever. It was a pleasant 3 weeks which was during my leave period so was also monetary beneficial. Christmas day every crew member received a Xmas day present from the owners, plus low alcohol beer and the food was excellent. I remember thinking at the time what a difference to some British ships of years gone by. It was a change of centuries also and at midnight a tug was on stand by as a lot of people thought the computers were going to go down at midnight, so much for some technical minded people. Cheers JWS

Brian if he can get back through those portals into Westminster he"ll be there like a rat up a drainpipe. Got you a calendar for 2017 with various scenes of Kalgoorlie, one a recent picture of the big pit, is even bigger now. They wouldn't let me in the other places so had to do with one of the pubs. Cheers JWS

I was a Cargo Surveyor at Fawley Marine Terminal on the night of the millennium (1999/2000), all cargo operations were suspended as it was thought something disastrous would happen on the stroke of midnight. My laptop didn't explode, the refinery didn't blow up. At 0030 I resumed work on a VLCC that I had to shut down at 2330, then something bad happened. I spilt coffee on my laptop, even then neither the VLCC or the refinery exploded. The laptop made a full recovery within a few minutes, but I was a bit miffed at the loss of my coffee.
As for the guys in prison, that obviously should never have happened. It's not something I was aware of, presumably the press didn't think it worthy of publication, why not? Since our government cannot control themselves or take little responsibility for their actions, it doesn't surprise me that they're not interested. Surely India being once part of the Commonwealth counts for something? We give them billions in foreign aid and they treat our vets with such contempt, perhaps we should tell India where to to shove it's cheap and shoddy goods made with child labour
