Land Ho!
In a news item this morning it was reported that 2 asylum seekers had attempted to cross the Channel from Calais in a 10ft dinghy. A mile from Dover the boat began taking on water and the occupants (Syrians) called 999 and were rescued by the coastguard. They were taken ashore, medically examined and given tea and biscuits. I presume that later today they will be offered afternoon tea and given a menu to peruse and select their dinner order. How were they aware of the emergency contact numbers? Will they be sent back across the Channel? I doubt it. They are with the immigration people right now and five will get you ten that they won't have any form of id.

Re: Land Ho!
Hi Gilly they said they were Iranians, they also dialled 999 on their mobile phones. This is the first of Many, they were sent out to give it a road test, now it works there are 15,000 in Calais all ready to come across. Soon it will be like the trip from Turkey to Greece with a million coming across.
The Coast Guard and immigration should have put them on the Calais Ferry and sent them back muy pronto.
Tonight they will be staying at the Premier Inns in Dover, f.o.c. at our expense. I saw the inflatable on TV and it looked brand new not a mark on it. complete with outboard motor and oars. Very well organised by the smuggling gangs in froggy france.

John, Brian
those sea trials were held years ago by boatloads of Pakistanis landing on our beaches, remember Enoch Powell's Rivers of Blood speech.

Re: Land Ho!
No doubt the will be given a comfy billet, free board and £5 per day spending money.
Yet an old lady of 92 is to be deported to South Africa, doesn't make sense.

Re: Land Ho!
on The sky news a fishing boat reported that the dear poor soles (HMM) were dropped off about a mile from English shore by a yacht, which sailed with all speed back to France.
Send them all back. where they came from.

Re: Land Ho!
Not only did their phone reach the 999 number it worked in British waters. Many phones will only work on the network of the country of origin, so watch out they are coming....in big numbers I fear.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Land Ho!
Lads as we are all to aware, These 2 idiots took a hell of a chance attempting to cross one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, I would not be surprised if we don,t find a hell of a lot of bodies washed up on our shores if this is the new route into the U.K. And lets not forget even on a good day its no comparison of the calm summer Mediterranean waters.
