Hi again Geoff,
Well it could well have been the Top Rank,if that was in Town,and as for a Lake,well actually do recall a span of water but it was more of a very large marsh,and didnt look too inviting,could that have been what you posted ?
Yes Wales is for me OK i loved it to bits mate!
the little place i stayed at on Holiday with friend s 'Powys" was so quaint and peacefull,and just at the back of them wsa this large Caravan PARK where i used to take my daily walk Brrrrrrrrrrr! In December of 2003 Freezing!!
Very good memories!

Hi Vernon.
Google -Castles in Wales, there are I think around 630 of them. I used to play Robin Hood in two of them as a kid.

Hi Guys & Gals,
I have read with great interest all your contributions to “Wee Places Visited” and glad I started this thread. HOWEVER!.. With ALL the diplomacy I can muster and not wishing to offend ANYONE!.. My intent was to hear about little out of the away foreign ports visited.
Without any shadow of doubt, the British Isles has much to offer in the way of beauty as many of you have mentioned, so keep it coming, but also those far away places. I will shortly be contributing quite a few of my own wee experiences.

Hi Al,
You mentioned Lexois Portugal, we used to call in there every month enroute to Oporto and Lisbon. I've tried to locate it on "Google Earth" but cant find it, I've even used another spelling Leixoes, no luck?:confused:

hi vernon . sorry i dont know that castle ,but il find out for you , as des said wales is known as the land of castles. i like des played on then as kids , they were just there and we thought nothing of them. when i took my wife over to wales last year she just stood in awe, looking at them never mind being able to walk on them. whats the saying familirarity breeds contempt.best wishes geoff

Yeah Vernon, that's the place. I've looked at it a few times on a webcam. I did a couple of trips up there on Denholm's "Clarkavon" and, although it was bordering on very cold later in the year, it was still nice to sail through the islands on the way in.
I have to agree with Frank's comment that I expected more comments on foreign ports, not to put down the many beautiful spots in the UK.

:pThere have been quite a few that I could mention but one particular place stands out for me above all the rest & that is Port Alice in British Colombia that was in 1959 & the only way you could get in there was by small plane or boat as we did to load timber back to the UK.
The day we docked was Boxing Day apparently they had been waiting for our ship to dock the previous day because everyone who wasn't on duty were invited to Christmas dinner & parties the friendliness of those people I have never forgot so much so there is web site for Port Alice & I placed a message on it in return I have had quite a few e-mails from present & past residents of this beautiful place.
As a matter of fact all the ports around that part of the world are really nice & the scenery is stunning.

Taffy X. Here comes your nightmare. When I came ashore(married Welsh you see) I joined the Post Office (1965) My 1st walk Was Heol Trelai Ely which included Heol Deva, Poyston , and Carnau. I lived in Riverside so it was only a spit and a drag to the head office in Park St.,. In 71 we moved (Post Office) to Penarth Road and in 91 they promoted me out of it to Bristol HGV parcels. Retired now and living in Zummerzat but made some great mates and had great times in the 'Old Town'. Still go to internationals and cheer on Wales, mind you with my accent get some queer looks. hi mickeal. i lived the other side of the main road ,[ cowbridge rd ] fonmon cres, off highmead rd . what a small world!. i word for cardiff city council.baths dept, worked at all the swimming pools. ended up back in ely, as asst manager ,western leisure centre.left in 9o to come to nz. best wishes geoff.:)
