.The old Queen Mary in Long Beach is well worth visiting and stay on board, Better than any hotel anywhere.
I have stayed on her many times. Superb Restaurants, Bars , dancing etc. many theme shows, visit the bridge and engine room, fantastic. You do not get sea sick on this one.
Here is a view of the Cabins. no hotel has this............... Only $17 from L.A. Airport in a shuttle bus. Brian, and also meet our John Adamson in the bar there.
Cappy I know you will never do a cruise but if you did I think you would be very pleased with the modern ships. They can hold their own in heavy weather far better than they look capable of, and they are not so far removed from some of the great passenger liners of old.

The Port Telegraphs, in particular.
Goes like this.
Was Watchmate,with the Chief Q.M.(incidentally,Cap't Sorrel was the first person he acknowledged ,when entering the Wheelhouse. G'day Swin !" whatever.
This particular Sat. afternoon,Swinnerton was first Wheel,. He would have ,been "on the wheel >,during the Pilotage, anyway. That always being his position.
As the Cap't entered , he said 'Miss Kerr ,would like to be up here ,for the New York ,Pilotage, .
We'd just slowed to ,Dead Slow ahead. When entered Deborah Kerr.
The lady , had previously visited , with her two young daughters and i i
think ,their Nurse .Some couple of days previously. That time, I was "On the Wheel"
. As opposed to other ships. On the Queens , one relieved at Five Mins to, the appointed Watch.
Which meant , at Noon , in particular , One Q.M. on the Wheel. His Watchmate , delivered the Days Run figures to
the Appropriate Notice Board. that's another Story! (The biggest Rort , in seafaring History. The two Q.M's coming "Off Watch." One went ,to the Telegraphs , the other to the Whistles.
Miss Kerr, propped .right in front of me . Looking For'ard. I Struck, the Eight Bells . Telegraphs ringing , Steam and electric Whistles. She turned Round, Hands clasped over Her ears, Looking , straight to me. Noises subsided . "What's all the cacophony" ? She asked.I explained it was done every day ,at sea, to Test the telegraphs and Whistles. Then followed a little session ,of pretending to let the the little girls ,Steer.
Back to Arrival N.Y. Pilot's on Bridge. "Slow Ahead ,Port for'd." repeated order back to him.
Miss kerr. ,leaning back on the the Telegraph. Should I ask her to muove.? Mebbe, She ;will , before the next Order. "Half Ahead .Port For'd." Too late! ." Full Ahead ,Port For'd" .Propelled Her forward.
Though ,She was the one , to turn to me, and apologise.
needless to say , on my susequent Leaves. For the benefit of my Mates Wives, Had to describe in detail. what was She Wearing ? What colour , ,actually ,was her hair? etc.
Yes, can endorse Your recommendation ,as a must visit , . Had the privilege of being part of a group , from. U.K. Canada , , Victoria and Qld. here. Hosted by the American Seamen. and stevedores, . For Three weeks . Which included three nights Aboard. plus a Covention at the Sahara in Vegas.
Culminating , with a Slap- up do.aboard the Jeremiah -O'Brien.alongside ,in San. Fran. in their Club, ,in the volimonous No. 2 Hatch.
