I sympathise with you taking all those steroids, I am on them for this "Polymyalgia rheumatica".
It gives me weak muscles in my arms, hence I am not taking part on site very often.
I have even cut down on my food intake, but still I put on a bit of weight.
I have been told I will be on them for some time.

In 2003 I was involved in a very bad boating accident. My friend and I were going fishing. I was a passenger and my buddy was captain. The craft hit an underwater obstruction (submerged tree stump) and came to a dead stop, unfortunately for me, I didn't, I flew chest first into a bench seat. I imploded and broke five ribs and punctured a lung. I was medi-vac by helicopter to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and spent ten days in intensive care and a further twenty days in regular patient care. I lost a third of a lung.
Once I was fully recovered my doctor gave me a pneumonia vaccine injection. In the states it is offered free for those over sixty-five and encouraged. If ones general health is good, the shot is effective for life. If one has a weakened immune system a booster shot may be needed. This is determined by ones M.D.. Additionally in the states, free flu-shots are given annually to over sixty-fives. I am aware that this years flu vaccine is not a perfect match for the current strain of flu, nevertheless, I haven't had the flu since my accident. I will continue to be vaccinated against the flu annually as if I err, I shall err on the side of caution.
My wife, who is my medical maven, advises me that pneumonia vaccine is available world-wide, and I strongly urge members to be vaccinated and to have a flu-shot annually. As J.P. and Marian have found out, pneumonia isn't a joke.
Get well JP and ask the Doctor about the vaccine.

p.s. You cannot take the shot if you are allergic to eggs. There may be some other caveats, ask your G.P.. I had no ill effects from the vaccine. It was a piece of cake!
Free pneumonia and flu shots available free to anyone over 60 here and also asthmatics of any age, not quite sure if they are available free to everyone, but you can go into a pharmacy and pay if you are so inclined. Well worth having, erring on the side of caution becomes more important the older you get, even if we don't like to admit it
I get them - a booster every five years. And the flu jab annually. Free to oldies.Quote:
