Hi shipmates a few weeks ago I was given a "MERCHANT NAVY" great coat for use in cold weather, at sea like the one they wore on the bridge of the cruel sea, in good condition it belong to his friends dad R.I.P. {WARTIME}?who gave it to him ? he gave it to me, now in wardrobe.
Jockstrap, knife & spike, sea boots and sou'wester - southern ocean working gear
My first go-ashore raincoat was a barathea trench coat courtesy of wear while you pay the willouby way in liverpool I was 16 at the time and I tthink total cost was 34pounds.5 Months wages.
Many years later(a lot many) I had a sail altered for my boat at Fleetwood Trawlers and while picking it up I saw a fishermans sweater that I thought would look good for any winter sailing .Never wore it as it was so loaded with lanolin that I couldn't go to the pub in it with the other yachtys.
Would have loved it on the north atlantic trips to Canada though
