An old ferts Sunday Moan

That business with the cycle bell; it ought to be compulsory. I live in an outer suburb with plenty of specially created paths for walkers and joggers. I don't need to tell you that the wretched cyclists who think they own every road in Melbourne without having to pay road tax have taken over. As a regular walker, well stroller really, I am startled several times during a 45 minute outing.
I told my lads that I was gonna buy a bunch of cheap Chinese made bells and stand with a tray flogging them on the corner. for $3 a throw, they both laughed and said to watch out for the mugger who would be watching from the bushes.
I wish we had a nice pub nearby that I could walk too and have a pint, however the cost of living in the leafy 'burbs precludes such joys.

I walk the river wall every morning with my kelpie wakes me up every morning to for his walk,get the odd bike rider down there but skeeter let's me know when there coming he steers them away from my path.takes about an hour,get a good number both walkers and joggers.

Not sure how it works in UK but here in Victoria cyclists are allowed to use the footpath, we also have cyclists lanes on some roads. Sunday morning on Bay Road, a busy road that runs along side the bay, will be full of them all in Lycra. the idiots will ride four abreast, the law allows for two, and hold up the traffic. In the news today, in the past 6 months over 500 have been fined for running red lights. they appear to think road rules do not apply to them.

No joggers here - they're all too busy carrying great piles of firewood home.

Supposed to be a £20 fine for riding on the footpath, but they blatantly ride past the police person (if you can find one!) and the PP says nothing to them, as in other countries they think they own the roads, footpaths and bridleways (which horses are not allowed on) and everyone is open to their self righteous abuse. If the cyclist is involved in an incident with any type of motor vehicle the cyclist is deemed innocent by law, now that is an incentive to break the rules. We also have green areas at traffic lights which spread across the whole half of the road reserved for cyclists, if a car enters that box whilst waiting at the lights he can earn a £60 fine and 3 points, the law is on the side of the cyclist law breakers and loaded against the motorist and thus it well ever be

Some where in the back of my mind I think it is the law that bicycles must be fitted with lights and a bell but I guess if that's true this law is never applied.
Those invalid carriages are a positive menace. I see one on a regular basis that not only does it have the equivalent of a leather armchair for its seat size but it also has alloy wheels for heavens sake.
Its a pity we could not follow the Dutch model and put dedicated cycle pathways alongside all our roads but then again if we did do that no doubt the joggers PC brigade would demand dedicated jogging pathways alongside all roads, though having said that, providing all this dedicated pathways would reduce the width of roads left for motor traffic which in turn may result in the maniacs who inhabit our roads today, to reduce their speed.

John there is one round here with alloy wheels, bedecked with chrome fittings and sporting multiple aerials with pennants on them, this particular individual has no regard for anyone on the pavements or roads, and when he's in a bolshie mood drives in the middle of the road and Torquay is built on seven hills, the only flat place in Torquay is the sea, so you can imagine how much he holds up the traffic going up hills and the police turn a blind eye. I'm sorry is restricted to such mode of transport, but maybe he isn't we have two mobility carriage centres in Torquay and I often see people walking into them and coming out on these vehicles, in some cases husband and wife walk in together and each comes out with a matching buggy and ride two abreast on the pavement. It gets worse in the winter when all the hotels are on their 'Tinsel and Turkey' promotions and coach loads of these 'ill' people arrive. They never need the transport to get to the buffet and bar

When you look through some of the old local papers more or less each week you see a clip Man fined 10/-d (ten shillings) for not having lights on bicycle,I suppose the law still stands.I remember this African guy got caught for not having lights on his bike the judge fined him a pound he said if it would've been night time he would've fined him ten pound.!!!

Hi shipmates, jogging and cycling every day things here to go out is to take your life in your hands? we have them{Joggers} with full backpacks on training for Syria Not many now seems to have all gone away, But waiting for the pubs/clubs to open on Sunday? this has died out years ago here... I remember the club near me the members were around the block waiting for 11am but alas no more? why the pub around the corner is open at 9 am, with a full cooked breakfast if you like? gone are the olden days when early beer was only for committee members on a sunday today everyone is welcome with cash in pocket. the sunday papers are read on the tablet/laptop NO cost free the news agent/papershop has closed down ,but the church bells still ring.

I guess there must be one in every crowd....On this post it's me. I work-out every day and part of my work-out is a ten mile bike ride, and I love it. I live in what is called in the states a gated community., meaning it has gates and fences to keep it private. No outside passing through traffic

The street traffic of a morning is minimal, however, I wear a helmet and a brightly colored safety vest. Mainly because what few drivers there are, are "wrinklies" like me, they are in general also blind as bats and rotten drivers. I also have a nice big horn mounted on my handle bars, (a) to scare mobs of Canada geese that stand in the road, crapping like...well like Canada geese. (b) to use when I come up behind a dog owner walking on my side of the street, their backs towards me and using the worlds worst invention: the twenty-five foot retractable dog leash. Owning the whole road, just so the dog has the freedom to sniff or pee up anyone's mailbox post, either side of the street.

Now, Sunday morning is my favorite time to ride; our streets are empty, why you ask? Well I figured it out...All the Catholics are in church, all the protestants are in bed, and all the atheists are on the links playing golf.
