#1. Can't make out the name of the container boat, but the other one is the Shell tanker Achatina. Do I win the prize JAE?

#3- This one looks like Lapsang Souchong, milk no sugar, in a delicate bone China cup. Where I'm sitting the sun is just approaching the yardarm, so perhaps something a little stronger for identifying the vessel posted.

Well you did get the name right so cheers.............rum and coke.jpg

I did a trip on the Achatina as second cook and baker. She was a lovely looking ship.
I havent sailed on the Edith Maersk for two reasons. 1. I'm too old now and 2. I dont suppose she has a second cook and baker.

#5- No 2nd cook & baker perhaps, but you would need a degree in electronics to operate the microwave.

What horrible looking ships. containers. No open decks to sit out on and tell yarns or bronzy.
and the view of a rusty container out side your window. No sea view
I would go mental on one of those, Never set foot on one.
    Cheers

You are totally right guys about how things have changed, that is the largest ship to ever sail up the Thames. What rings in the changes for me is that the ship was about to berth at the 'NEW' port of London Gateway . That picture is particularly appropriate as it shows a Shell 'A' boat which might have berthed at that spot when it was called Stanford Le Hope. I guess it is called progress that a derelict part of the Thames has been regenerated with the benefits that this creates. Whether that is the same for the people who live and work on the container ship involved, compared with the men who sailed on the Shell tanker (A fifty year gap) are better off I doubt? All I can think of is to refer people to that excellent current thread started by Louis the Fly 'The Best and Worse'
