Landfall ex LCT7074
LCT7074 is the only surviving Tank landing craft that took part in the D-day landings, and is on the Historic Ships register. She is currently residing at the bottom of the East Float Dock, Birkenhead and has been for about four years. The National Museum of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth, has received a £916,000 grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund to raise and move Landfall to BAE Systems Naval Dockyard, Portsmouth, Hampshire, for restoration. The ex Mersey Mammouth Floating crane, now called Lara 1 is to raise her tomorrow. She will then be transported in November by a Dock Ship to Plymouth.
There is a good article on this HERE
She was originally part of the Historic Warship Trust of which HMS Plymouth was until it went into liquidation in 2006. It is good to see that at least LCT 7074 will be saved.

Re: Landfall ex LCT7074
It was tied up by the pool (where the Bar Lightship ship is at the moment) it was a Master Mariners club.It was moved along to the dock opposite the tobacco warehouse and named the Jolly Roger where it was a night club.

This is how I like to remember her Chris, Canning Dock L,Pool. Jim you must remember the Cannon Bob Evans. He would often be found mixing with the lads aboard the Landfall, And of course Kingston House L,Pools mission to seaman. Cup of tea and a steak pie after going into Mann Island pool across the road, It was when you couldn't afford the steak pie you new it was time to ship out. Happy days Terry.

Re: Landfall ex LCT7074
Here is another story regarding WW1 warship HMS Caroline. It just shows you the state of affairs regarding our shipbuilding and repair. The ship is in Belfast tied up close to where the Titanic was built and yet they have got to send it away for the refurb, maybe to Cammel Laird which is good news for them.
Regards.
