I had the privilege of living next door to a driver of such during the Normandy landings. And while he didn’t talk too much about it, I gathered that they were run by naval personel of the rank of coxains , John Fiddaman after the war went into the fire service and rose to be a fire chief of Plymouth before retiring and returning to the NE coast. He has been dead now for a good few years but to my way of thinking was just one of the many unsung heroes of that period in history. JS
Appreciated John, few then spoke much of what occurred and
we will never regain all that could have been recorded.
