There are so many unanswered questions re the Scots, if the vote in a fortnight is YES for seperation, will they be allowed voting in the general election in 8 months time, very interesting, KT
will they still be british i think not
If Scotland goes will Labour ever get back into power ?
Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do. Before I start, I would definitely not like Scotland to leave the Union. Having said that, if the vote goes wrong, a few questions. 1) Why shouldn't Scotland continue to use the pound? (It's been the country's legal currency for a long time, and it was a Scotsman who founded the Bank of England.) 2) Why is Scotland's share of the National Debt 62 billion out of 170 billion? 3) Isn't it called the British Commonwealth? 4) I make my own Cornish pasties, will Cornland sue me? (Try that in a PNG court!).
As for the Queen getting to Balmoral, Salmond would probably sell her a visa - and increase the rent.
In another thread JP and John s were talking about the Coastguard.
This set the old grey matter working.
If Scotland does vote for independence they will have to set up their own maritime registry for any vessels registered in Scotland (lots of supply vessels) with staff to survey them for Statutory Certification. They will need surveyors to carry out Port State Inspections. They will need a coastguard body for rescue co-ordination plus an accident investigation body for any incident that occurs within Scottish waters, irrespective of flag and also to investigate any incident on a Scottish registered vessel in a foreign port (could be in England or even China), they will also need a qualifications department to issue tickets as per the STCW regulations etc. etc. The list goes on. Just look at the MCA website to see what work they actually undertake and then realise that an independent Scotland will have to replicate that at their own cost. Unless of course Mr. Salmond contracts the MCA to carry on this work for an Independent Scotland, in which case we can charge him a arm and a leg for such services.

#47 John I feel you are "preaching" to the converted here for want of a better word. Direct all these valid points to the SNP Office instead. My BP is raising daily as I'm also playing host to my daughter's friend who has been living here these past two months Ex gratia, watered & fed to boot and voting SNP!!!
Marion, I dont mean to be facetious but why dont you charge your daughters friend a reasonable amount for B&B plus food and try explaining to him/her that that is what you have to do in the real world and which the SNP may soon have to find out the hard way. That might bring home the realities of life to him/her.
Just a suggection.
John.
Marian, why not invite your daughter's friend to live with Mr Salmond?
