    Default More memories

    Yet again...Its only me remermissing....

Amazing...after all the Gin....consumed! Over the years

    Memories of a Tug Boat...RFA Bustler..Devonport 1968?

I Joined her in 1968 as the RO...Most of the time we were in Devonport Dockyard. But we did have adventures, mainly towing ammo barges around the British Coast.

The highlight was when the nuclear Sub "Truculent" had engine failure near Gibraltar. On a weekend!!! NO LESS..

All leave was cancelled and we set off from Devonport, escorted by a couple of RN Frigates and a Cruiser...to the rescue...The weather was appalling...

A Naval PO and two Sparkies were on board...all the traffic was in Naval code...The sub was eventually towed to the Clyde. A 3 or 4 day/night job.The weather was still force 7 to 10

In those days...the crew was over 40..Officers/Engineers/Deck and catering .I remember our Skipper was Australian...He loved his Gin...

Gin I know is supposed to be a pure Drink, and I have no doubt it is,but depends on the person drinking it ,as all Humans have different reactions to various Drinks!
Lou is one I know who can really handle the G&T ,I used to like it at times in my drinking days but was not my number one choice,i was really a Cane (for the pain drinker (Mainstay)as we used to say LOL!
My dear late Mother used to drink it and when she did unfortunately it made her very morbid and sad!
I noticed that effect on many people who drank Gin!?? Wonder why!??

My favourite gin is Bombay Safire, but have to go easy, haven't got the recovery ability after a session as I once had. If you listen to all the experts, booze is no good for us, but what the hell, after four score years and ten, you've had your whack so enjoy it KT

#6- Must say KT, I agree with the comment re recovery after a session, four days after celebrating Hogmanay I'm still suffering, even drinking only wine (can't really handle the Cuba Libra's anymore). I also like your 'four score and ten' observation, must be the fresh air on the IOW keeping you ninety year olds fit.

I don't have any hang ups about what alcoholic type to drink. Will have a go at them all. Could be called a Jack of all drinks, master of none. JS
