It really is sad to see this thread, like so many on this forum, degenerate into a political lefty/righty argument. I know we have an election coming up with lots of big issues and we all hold our own opinions but why do we need to utter them on this thread. I don't mind you talking politics on a discussion thread specifically for those topics but why destroy the topic started by Arthur John Harvey: "Seaman pows by the french in africa". It does nothing for the standing of this Forum.
Jeez - it's all over the news - every channel, do we really have to take it into this thread and others like it. People with a genuine interest in the subject heading of this thread will really love what you are all talking about now.
When we were all at sea we avoided talking too much about religion and politics for obvious reasons.
Regards
Hugh

hi hugh
I have read through this whole section, and I agree with you about respect etc, but I cannot remember any day or anytime I was at sea when there wasn't conflict of some sort, and I have enjoyed the repartee back and forth between the left and right as a matter of fact I have been laughing out loud with some of it,
so please so long as the twain shall not meet then peace shall prevail

A pity though about the thread going to ruin because of politics, Thomas.
If every thread starts to be infected by political rant then I personally will move on from here. It would be a shame really as I have enjoyed this forum for many, many years. Why can't we talk about current political matters in a dedicated thread to that subject? Why bring it into threads about WW2 or other threads where that dialogue is unwanted? Of course, I could be in the minority and if that's what you all want to talk/write about then fine but I think the silent majority do not want threads taken over like this.
Regards
Hugh

Totally agree with you Hugh, almost every post is being hi-jacked for some political rant, I have mentioned it before to keep politics in a political forum but to no avail, you of all people should not be driven from this site, you are the one voice of sanity with a knowledge unparalleled by any other contributor, we need you, stay with it, calmer waters are in sight.

My thoughts are the same on this Brian I think this thread should be treated with respect by us all, very many of the men
it concerns suffered badly and we should never forget that because they are us and we are them, they would understand
that no disrespect was intentional, just heated reaction.
At the same time I can also agree with cappy, as it's in our nature to retaliate and hit back, we wouldn't be here today if
our forbears hadn't done that, unfortunately Keith seems to be "gifted" in the art of provoking people, whether it comes
naturally or if he works at it I don't know but it works well for him, "just an observation Keith". cheers John F
