Re: Possibly of Interest from Brenda Shackelton
Hi Evan,
I have a second house in Fleetwood. Captain Bob Arnott lived with his sister there, I used the same taylor, but unforunately I never met him, so I do not know if he is still alive or not. I could check up next time I go. The taylors shop where he bought his clothes and suits unfortuately has closed down so that is one channel of information that has ended.
I have met and sailed with Commodore Ron Warwick many times and socially also his charming wife Kim and his son Damien who also runs a site all about the QE2.
The top suites on QE2 I believe were in the 250,000 dollar range for the world cruiises. Unfortunately every time I wanted to book one they were always reserved.;)
Another Master was Captain Robin Woodall who I sailed with when he was a 21 year old 4th Officer on the old Fanconia in 1956. Unforunately he past away around 16 months ago. Commodore Warwick attended his funeral on the Wirral.
I enjoyed sailing on QE2. the same people were always there every year on the world cruise so it was always quite pleasant when joining to see the same friendly faces. Just like going home.
Anne and I attended Commodore Ron Warwick`s` Tribute Dinner in the First Class dining Room on board QUEEN MARY in Long Beach, in 2006, quite a glamorous occasion. with many celebs and high ups from Cunard attending.
Cheers
Brian.
Re: Possibly of Interest from Brenda Shackelton
Hi Brian, Another amusing yachtie story, some years ago i was coming out of Newtown harbour on the IOW, very early in the morning, to see the QE2 coming down the western Solent and out via the needles, which as you are aware is unusual , normal exits via the eastern end. A yacht called the QE2 up on 16 and got a reply, the yacht asked if Captain Woodhall was on board, on being told he was, asked to speak with him, i thought that this was going a bit far, but it turned out to be one of his neighbours on a sea school yacht doing a course of some sort. I can imagine the poor guy on the bridge telling the captain a yacht wished to speak with him, Regards KT
Re: Possibly of Interest from Brenda Shackelton
Captain Woodall was involved with things like that when on leave and in retirement, He was also involved , I believ with the Lifeboat on the wirral, On the last world cruise on QE2 in 2008 there were a few of his friends from the yacht club on the Wirral, on board, one told me then that his health was failing. he died not long after,
Cheers
Brian.

For Captain Kong, if you get the broken computer to an expert, he may very well be able to retrieve what ever was on the hard drive. it is worth a try!

I have saved every hard drive from all my ex computers, they are easily removed and can be added to an external shell (approx £20) then used plug and play on all new compos similar to an external hard drive. K.

Re: Possibly of Interest from Brenda Shackelton
One lady in the U tube clip stated that many did not understand the Merchant Navy.
There were many 'men' with UCL, P&O, Cunard who did not understand if they were Arthur or Martha so what hope have shore side people got?

You should make back-up copies of everything you value. I have a second hard (D) drive installed in my computer and regularly copy on to it.
