The Starboard Club, Milford Haven
Hi
During WW2 my father was in rescue tugs and towards the end was stationed in Milford Haven.
Although he died in 1960 I have some of his stuff, amongst which is a membership card for the "Starboard Club" in Milford Haven .
I remember joining my ship there once having driven down. I had to leave the hire car at the agents office and then get a taxi to my ship. Along the way to the ship I can remember passing a building with the "Starboard Club" sign outside and intended to go back and investigate but never got the chance.
My question is to any member living in the Milford Haven area, does this club still exist and what is its purpose.
I have to assume that is was a club for seafarers, not only from the name but why would my father join a club that did not have connections with seafaring.
Any info grateful for.

When I was in ESSO I spent quite a while in Milford H in the 70s and 80s, but do not remember a club with that name.
Maybe our local Welsh Lads may know.
.
On google,......
The Rotary Club of Milford Haven was formed in 1957 and its members meet on a weekly basis at The Starboard Hotel on a Tuesday evening (except for occasional lunch time meetings on the last Tuesday of each month).
.
Starboard Hotel21 Hamilton Terrace, Milford: Central, Milford Haven, Dyfed, SA73 3JA
Tel: 01646 692439.
Maybe this is the one John.
Cheers
Brian

Thanks the above. I recall seeing the hotel of that name when I was in Milford but the address on the membership card is different. Still I guess they may have taken their name from the hotel because of its Nautical theme

Colin: Just off the phone with the Seamens Mission in Milford Haven, seems the present day Starboard Hotel, would have been known then and locally as the Starboard Club. if you are near, the chap to ask is Tony.
Would imagine as elswhere many sailors would have joined as members even short term for the benefits: as prices would have been cheaper than the pubs, possibly food also, usually a good crowd and the entertainment, snooker etc. Generally a social club was a home from home to many and the centre of many a communty.

Colin: Just off the phone with John, he has been there thirty years: Apparently at some stage was a Gentlemans club. Maybe you over a pint could dig up more ?

John, I will have to apologise here, as I have not been able to find out a single thing. Even my 'news of the world neighbour' couldn't come up with anything. However I will keep asking around for you.
regards.
