Default ship s name prefix JALA

After discussions on a previous post, and locking ships toilets in port etc, i looked in my discharge book for the name of the ship i was on, when running round the Pakistan/indian coast. Now the ship was British with a British crew, red ensign, and i believe the original name of the ship was the SILTON HALL, when i was on her she was the JALASILTON HALL, would this have been because she was on charter to an Indian company??, and was it normal for a charter company to change the name?. In my distant memory i recall lots of Indian ships with the prefix JALA to their name. Cannot find any reference to this name on the internet. Perhaps some of the ex skippers will know the answer, regards KT

The "Lord of the Waters" is the translation of Jala- krishna, which is the name of a 12,590-deadweight-ton freighter of the Scindia Steam Navigation Co. All of the ships in the company's fleet have, the prefix Jala, which means "water," in their names. ' In emphasis of Long Beach as the "International City," pretty Joyce Loedige, 19, represented the Chamber of Commerce in welcoming the ship and her crew.
