    Default Horatio

Reading recently of some of our ancient seagoing ancestors and the strange christian names some of them had.
    First of all
    Horatio,
    Arthur KNYVET Wilson
    John ARBUTHNOT Fisher
    Samuel GURNEY Creswell
    MERRICK
    PEPPER
    CLOUDESLEY.
    To name a few.
Any of you old mariners got a strange christian name?
I sailed with a Claude who hated to be called by that name.

A guy drank in my local for many years he was known to everyone as Bob.Anyway Bob died and his brother came over from Yorkshire for the funeral,we were talking to his brother about different things about Bob,Bobs brother was a bit confused as he was actually Bob and our "Bob" was in fact named Cyril.Cyril must've left home in Yorkshire to go to sea and did'nt fancy being called Cyril so took his brother Bobs name over.
    Regards.

Hi JS, Yes, the place was a real killing field, both the men I know with the name had fathers who were there when the battles took place, both were ANZACS. Regards Peter in NZ.

There was a guy who applied for a job in the Uni where I was employed. when asked his name he said it was just Mac.
The Dean said he must have something else as Mac would not look good on his door.
Truth to tell he said his real name was john Thomas McDangle and went to oxford and got a BA. then to Cambridge and got a BS.
Then went to Thailand and got a certain disease.
When Oxford herd this they took the BA away from him.
When Cambridge found out what Oxford had done they took away his BS.
Then the disease took away his John Thomas,
As there was then nothing left to dangle he became just Mac.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Life is too short to blend in.
