This reminds me of a certain episode when we were aboard the German Supply ship Charlotte Schliemann as pows .This was in the South Atlantic Ocean in August 1942the gerrys let us on deck to see the German Navy of five of their ships all together two raiders two supply ships and a Uboat .Where was our navy the guys said
HI LOU, That must have been terrible, they were just rubbing your noses in it, showing off, but i can imagine how you all felt, very let down, the Germans had planned well ahead, and the Raiders were hard to find,, used many disguises and highly armed, some carried 2 planes and MTB,s , i believe one Raider sank more Ships that the top scoring U Boat, when you look back at the things that happened to you, some must seem unreal. you should write a book, people would be shocked at your experiences. best wishes,Tony W,
Most successful U-boat was U-48, sank fifty-one Merchant ships, damaged a further three as well as sinking one Royal Navy ship.Quote:

regarding ships sunk, i think the total tonnage was greater by the Raider, could be wrong. ? Pinguin sunk or captured 154,710 tons including 4 sunk by her mines. U48 sank 308,000 tons double the amount, so i was wrong.
