Every year around November/December I get £200 pounds heating allowance. I'm79 and have two pensions so obviously no benefits. I thought this applied to all over the age of 60.

Same here, Colin, in fact everyone is entitled to it from age 60, I first got it -backdated even- before I retired in 2003, also have two pensions, it doesnt seem to matter what your circumstances are, its not means tested, Regds., Willie.
I wonder whether it is automatic or has to be applied for. They always say that there are £millions that go unclaimed by the elderly each year.
Tony, you dont have to apply for it, it is automatic. They say it would cost to much to means test it ex Pats in Spain and other places who are being paid old age pension recieve it.Also no matter how rich you are you will recieve it.The cold weather payment is a different thing to the £200 payment. To recieve the cold weather payment you have tobe on an additional benefit to the OAP.Another thing you could check the temperature in your back garden and it is well below zero that dose'nt mean a thing there is an appointed place for each area from where the temperature is taken and you are paid by the temp as recorded at that appointed place. I remember a guy from Preston complaining it had been below zero for over two weeks where he lived and he had'nt been paid the cold weather payment. As it happens the temp for his area is taken just down the road from me at Crosby Coastguard station which is 25 miles away from Preston.

Jacyn, Do what i do hun ? put all your bills in a hat each month, Then if a wolf comes knocking on your door demanding money tell him he never came out the hat this month and the budget has gone? And if you dont get off my case you wont even enter the hat next month. Regards J, Terry. Works every time J, :hidesbehindsofa:
If you have retired to Spain, for example, you still get the winter fuel allowance, this year it was £200, perhaps not really needed in the sun!
A pound 2 a penny pensioners retired to warmer waters will not get the £200 allowance after 2013. I dont see the point in having the house of lords they are considered peers with experience and full of wisdom people. David Cameron doesnt give a hoot what they dont agree on if he wants his way he gets it. And why is Clegg in polotics at all let alone deputy P.M/. He sits behind Cameron and seems motionless talk about fools rush in Lib/Dems finished. Along with the winter payment to ex pats abroard. Regards lads Terry.:(
True what everyone said winter fuel allowance £200.00 for everyone over sixty or £100.00 each if a couple, £25.00 every time it's -C for over a week.
Those on credit will be paid into bank account.
Those that cannot clairm are couples who have savings over £16.000 or have other pensions outside the state pension and above the limits set out by the goverment. meaning you are penalised for saving for your auld age.

We have means testing here in Oz and from information gathered Cameron, and Brown before, him had talks with out gov on the issue and how it would work in UK. But to pay cold weather allowances to persons living in Spain is a bit of a rort.
