It has taken a long time but, the future of the Red Ensign at least at home / on land in tribute and remembrance has been secured.
All down to the politicians what occurs next, trade after Brexit could see a future for the Duster ?

Cunard along with Princess, P&O, Holland America, Carnival and Costa are all owned by Carnival.
The queens, we had the Victoria in Melbourne in April and saw here in Southampton in June, are still flying the Red ensign as do all the other ships in the company as all arte registered in Bermuda.
As a British protectorate ships registered there are allowed to fly the Red Ensign.
They told me that they were flagging out to Bermuda because there was a Multy Million Dollar Wedding market.
I l;ater sailed on the Quen Elizabeth to OZ and I asked the Pursar, How many weddings have you had, he said , None.
I said ,How many Weddings have you got booked, he said , None.
So where was this million Dollar Wedding Market.??
at the end lf it all lies the $$$ , Cunard are a US company ,
As regards wages and conditions tell me if I am wrong. The only rules as we lived by were the BSF annual year book. Conditions of service and wages were agreed on by the shipowner and the union. Any shipowner could pay more if he wanted, the BSF was the minimum. The idea of a standard wage has been flaunted on here before by members of the ITF. I for one never saw crews on the foreign vessels I served on to receive, so in my case was paper propoganda. Some companies may have had a conscience, most didn't. You accepted their conditions or you didn't take the job, the only hold you had was when they were short of people and could hold out for more money. For a short time I worked for a Malaysian company the C.E. I had with me was Russian, the second engineer on the sister ship was Polish, the second was on 1000 US dollars a month more than the chief. The chief found out and threatened to resign, the company said go ahead. There was no shortage of others ready to take the job. Foreign vessels employing foreign crews pay according to nationality and have their own ideas on pay scales. Anyone who is on big wages thank one of two things, shortage of people willing to take the job, or the union who has got those wages for you. If you don't like unions then you shouldn't take the high wages and negotiate them yourself. Cheers JWS.
my understanding of tips relating to pay leaves me saddened , sign on here guys , no pay , just tips . what a disgrace
What I saw Rob when last in the states that was part of the hospitality workers pay. Even on the tour buses there was a sign on the entrance door that the driver thanked you in advance for the expected 30 per cent gratuity he hoped you were going to pay. One person told me that was about what the tax man expected them to get and was taxed accordingly. Would imagine if they do it ashore will certainly use it on ships. 30 percent on a 200 dollar bus tour is 60 dollars for a couple. If 30 on the bus for a 3 hour tour is 900 dollars, they can't have been on much of a wage. I am just a miserable sod I tip well I think I have had a good service and I certainly don't prescribe to forced tipping
