Don't you just love the way that the 'spin doctors' from each participating party in this sorry saga have all adopted the same pathetic ploy ? - 'Deny all culpability, but say enough to suggest that the other parties were responsible'. Then again, what else can we expect?

Trinity House should be under no illusion that the email sent to our member, Chris Allman (see post #85) by their P.R.Manager, Vikki Gilson, is sufficient to explain their part in all this. I think, perhaps, they need a new P.R. Manager. Quoting from the email Ms. Gilson writes 'I hope this answers your enquiry' - well I just bet she does. Sorry Vikki, not a chance. These people must think we've just come down out of the trees. Forgive my bluntness, but someone, somewhere, is being less than honest. Damage limitation is the order of the day and to hell with the truth. 'Tis a pity, but it does seem that moral corruption is alive and well in the commercial and political arenas of the modern age, but then, perhaps, it was always so.

Right now they must all be wishing that this can be swept under the carpet. It may well be that in time some will forget this whole affair, but not this little duck.

Hello Roger methinks that maybe a few letters should be winging their way to the "Elder Brethren" of Trinity House, asking for a full and frank information, mine will be written tomorrow saying that we are ex seaman and we are "not satisfied with "I hope this answers your query" which is the standard line issued by all those attending a marketing course. Somebody went off course, put the gardens on a collision course with insiduous marketing and only by the action of the reserve crew did the gardens not founder on the rocks of greed.

lads as I sit here in the comfort of an armchair with a glass of 'merlot' alongside I wish to give my thanks to you chaps who managed to get thru to Tower Hamlets and to the mayor himself. You managed to convince him of the tremendous feeling that was aroused around the world at the thought of a bunch of drunken hooray henrys possibly abusing the memorial opened by the Queen in 1955. as a lasting tribute to the men and women of the Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleets who lost their lives in two great conflicts plus the casualties from the Falklands.

Let's also be aware of Trinity House and the 'numbscull' who even encouraged the company involved to apply for a licence. I reckon there's answers required from that majestic organization, but I bet odds that we'll never find out.
I raise my glass to you lads but I remember tose 35000 odd who have never and will never enjoy the fruits for which they paid the ultimate sacrifice.:confused:

This type of behaviour is now commonplace, Bronze Name Plates stolen, War Memorials wrecked and desecrated by drunken yobs & yobettes, even Portland stone memorial surrounds dug up and looted!
It does not take much imagination the uproar the desecration of a mosque, or even of a flip-flop outside, - will cause.Riots, burning the Union Flag and the rest, while the Cops watch idly by!
We can expect no action from the junta ruling us, they are all probably on the "Celebrity" guest List anyway.

Have just viewed the film clip you mention by googling 'Tower Hill War Memorial - Dancing on Graves' which prompts to the U-Tube site. The film clip, although quite short, is most supportive of our view. The text of the clip explains the plan of Moving Venues Catering to hold Xmas Parties adjacent to the M.N.Memorial. It then explains the significance of the memorial and pans slowly over parts of the memorial revealing the names of some of the ships sunk in two world wars and the seafarers who perished together with images of some of those men. Whilst the camera pans, the text pointedly informs the viewer that the seafarers mentioned will be unable to attend the party. Personally, I found it quite moving and well produced. Hope this is of some assistance to you until you get the chance to see it for yourself.

I have read all the posts on both this site and StS and there is understandably a general consensus of opinion that Trinity House and the powers that be should provide answers.

However my personal opinion, for what its worth, is that little if anything will be achieved by loads of ex seamen writing and emailing them demanding answers. I think that will just p1ss them off and they will ignore us. As a group represented by in excess of 6000 international members, I feel that it would be better for one person to write to them with a carefully worded, diplomatic, letter. We need to have a representative to write on our behalf.

May I suggest that, if he feels up to it, Brian, as site owner, would be the ideal candidate. Failing that then I think that Chris Allman would be ideal. In that way a letter can be sent which may carry more clout than a host of individual letters / emails some of which I can imagine may be less than courteous, and may do more harm than good.

As previously stated this is my personal opinion and no doubt many will have other ideas. But, we must remember that our group of 6000+ members also indirectly represents the 35000 who never came home. So lets be a little professional in our approach and use this as our opportunity to do something positive in memory of those heroes.

I THINK: Tony is correct in his recommended approach and if put to a vote include mine, although doing and have done much am currently on holiday. While away have both followed all and played a part. But, as I am in contact with family etc by phone and have the lap top with me, have liaised with MN National, Wales and Barry Branch, whom in turn have included many, Wales have included Swansea and Newport etc.

My hands tied a bit while on vacation have ensured many others are in the frame and much action occurred.

In the main thank all on site for both a unified and dignified fight.

All in turn have aided to save the very Red Ensign prior and taken on Government for an MN Day, Tower Hill, is won hopefully now for all our tomorrows and for there yesterdays. LEST WE FORGET:
