having read hurriedly through Kongs alarmingly detailed doom laden lesson on the evils of drink and especially the warnings concerning the Liver, i am now resigned to a speedy demise. seems that particular organ was named after the city of my birth--Liverpool. Hey-ho, when i go i'll go happy.

I was repeating what he has to deal with everyday. in his job as a Hepatologist and Liver transplants. There are only 7 Liver transplant units in the whole of England and Wales,.But they do not always have a bed so no transplant even tho` they have a donated liver. That happened to Bernie, a friend of mine, sent home after being called in for one.
His biggest `customers`today are the kids of 16 years of age who are actually dying of Liver failure. No help can save them it is too late at that age.
A lot of kids drink a bottle of Vodka, before they leave home for a night out then they can consume a lot more than that while they are out and their livers have completely gone including other organs which start closing down due to the excess alcohol.
He has a terrible job explaining to the kids and their parents that they are dying with no possible help. they are too far gone. So very sad, when they are weeping and pleading for help when there is no hope.
He appeared on BBC TV in May in his hospital showing the results of that kind of drinking.

"You cannot go happy" Gilly, if it has got you then you die an extremely painful long drawn out death from which there is no relief until death closes you down.

Brian, who is just about to open a bottle of 14% red wine for dinner.
Way back in 1952 had been on leave and was on my way by train to report to Joe Shell office in London.
I got talking to a bloke who told me he was going to London to try and get a job with Cunard,he had been coasting and had a EDH ticket.
He came with me to Shells office and finished up signing with Shell.
Two weeks later we both got a telegram to join one of Shells supertankers STS Caprella (28,000 ton) we were on her for 7 months.
We sailed together on 5 differant ships over a period of 4 years.
Rod my mate hardly knew the differance between a pint of mild and a Brown Ale,we had lots of piss ups on board ship and differant parts of the world,he was clever and a good seaman but I see him grow into a hard core alcoholic.
I would be involved in lots of sessions buit never needed a livener next morning, I could drink or not drink.
I saw Rod in some funny old states and up to a point did look out for him.
I married and got a job ashore Rod carried on seagoing and finished up dead in the Maracaibo Lakes,his body was found two days after the ship sailed,he is buried in Maracaibo.
What I am getting at is two differant people one could drink with no problems,the other was on his way to the grave after his first drink.
I have said this to lots of people you are a alcoholic before you ever take a drink that first drink starts you off.
Myself I am eighty and I still like a drink but I dont think I would like to get into any heavy sessions.
hi lads. i have been known to drink 22 pints of double diamond then drive others home who were incapable. i was captain of our dart team and was used to drinking. i remember going to the lyceum in the strand every two weeks on rock n roll saturday nights. coming home i was so p88ssed that i just drove and someone would say turn right turn left. how i never had an accident i will never know. now i will have a pint at a meetup or xmas, but otherwise i never touch achohol. i don't miss it and feel better for it alf
Alf mate, any one who can drink that much DD deserves a medal. Like most UK beers I could not take to them, much prefer the ice cold lager style. Warm beer never appealed to me.
