That was a very interesting article. I think the only person who was right all along was the Second Officer, who pointed out the corect course and was overridden by all his senior men and the Pilot taking things into his own hands.
When ever I had a Pilot on board we always logged in the log book, "Courses to Masters Orders and Pilots Advice." Obviously in this case it wasnt.
I thought there was only one place in the world where this was different and that is the Panama Canal. where the Pilot is in full command of all movements.
Squat was a well known event for many years, we always applied it way back in the 70s.
