Why Where when& How did you leave the sea?

Hi Stuart.
Yes looked like you missed the best. In the early 50s I was on a cargo boat, ten weeks in Melbourne, rail strike, quarter of the cargo on the wharf no room for more. I was night watchman, after midnight pulled up the gangway and had a kip in the galley saw a whole cricket test match England /Australia during the week,then another three weeks in Geelong wharf strike, but made good money putting up shifting boards for wheat with the shore gang. Did four trips in two years to Aus alway a strike or two going, on great times.

No Des, my years 1947 to 1977 were the best Im sure because my policy in the first ten years was one trip one ship and to see as much as the world as I could, and I did sailing on all types of ships liners,cargo,tankers,coasters. Great experiences. Settled with Cunard cargo next fifteen years then a couple of tankers and ferries. Miss the life as it was THEN and Im sure it will never return.

Oh yes Des, life on the Oz coast back in the 60's. You could spend half a life time here going no where. There was something about the hospitality offered by the wharfies back then. When they got you here they just did not want you to go.
