The Juniper Berry Good News!
Hi All
I have been asked by Colin to put this on site for all those that remember the good old Juniper Berry Hotel in Southampton,a place i know frequented by many in the good old days!
I know i sure remember it,and the many good times we had in that place!
Also a few hair raising times too !
Cheers
Thanks Colin Hawken!
Vernon,I'm sure you'll remember this Pub in Southampton and why it was so popular. The name was changed to The Bosun's Locker. For several years it suffered the indignity of this silly name. To all us older Citizens this pub was and always would be the The Juniper Berry,or"The Juni." The current licencee has been given permission to change the name once more.To the delight of many of us "Oldies" we now once more have The Juniper Berry. When I asked if we would be having the Saturday night parade of "Queens" in the Lounge bar he thought it might be difficult."We no longer have Union Castle Queens ,do we?"You might also be interested to know the Pub is exactly the same, inside and out,as it ever was. It's a listed building, they can't alter it. I wanted to put this on the MN Website as there must be others that will remember this Pub. I'm having difficulty with it.Perhaps you could do this for me? Would be very grateful. Thanks.

I wonder
After reading this message from Colin,i got to thinking i wonder seeing as the Juniper Berry is now reverting to its old name, would the licencee perhaps consider (seeing as it was after all a good Seamans Haunt) having one of Mikes Flags Flying in there, this is just an idea to get a Flag up in at least one Place in the United Kingdom!
Any suggestions!?
Thanks

What a fantastic idea Vernon, no better place to let those who come after us to know not just about us and other MN persons, but to let them know just how important this pub was to so many of us.
Recall a Christmas eve there with some mates sining Carols, sounds a bit odd now but the it was quite normal.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Colin and George!
Hi Colin (we now have two)
I am sure that one doesnt really have to know him ,as long as he is approachable on the Subject and it is explained to him why !
I think anyone who has a bit of feeling for the things that many brave Men did for a better World would for us all ,at least would hear one out!
Its well worth a try!

Cheers

vernon that is a good idea. i do not like the premier inn particulaly and might find a better hotel near the juniper berry. not to slight george in any way as he has tried very hard with the meet-ups,but i have tried several times in the last couple of years to book two nights at the advertised reduced rate and have come to the conclusion that it is a scam. i have sent my car back to motorbility so would have to use a train. but hope to be there. alf love to irene.
