Christchurch Earthquake
Yes first of all thanks for all your concern for all of in Christchurch .The September4th was a big quake 7.1 and it gave us all a very rude awakening lots of crashing and things breaking around 0430 . But the boxing day one happened when I was on my boat in Lyttelton and the boat shook while on pile moorings I expected to se houses slip off the hills ,but nothinf but a lot of chimneys and bricks . Travelling home through the tunnel was scarry. Then the 6.3 only shollow and on the hills above Lyttelton around 1451 was the strongest shake I have ever felt ,I live in woolston the town side of the tunnel. That is the one that killed so many and brought down so many buildings in town and most of London St in Lyttelton .For those who remember the British Hotel ,Canterbury Hotel ,Royal Hotel , Empire Hotel ,will all have to come down as beyond repair. The Port is a mess with jettys slumping and the seabed rising the port has cancelled all cruise liners.Whole sides of hills from Lyttelton to Sumner have gone ,and a huge amount of the hill areas are unstable. We have had this black oose come up from down deep called Liquidfaction .We are still getting aftershocks every day with well over 50000 since 4th Sept.
I will phone Joseph Lamb for Glen Baker ,but their are a lot of Lamb,s in Canterbury {Not a Pun}
If you all go to Google and type in NZ Herald and click on Christchurch Earthquake their are Photos & Videos
Bye for now .

Thanks for the updates, so sad to hear just how bad Lyttleton got it. But sadder still the Cthederal. Boxing Day morning at about 0930 we stood and listened to the bells rining out across the city, it was a wonderful sound and I can understand why the people of Christchurch loved it so much. I just hope the day comes when the bells ring out again.

I am very pleased to report that my former Shipmate Joseph Lamb who resides in Christchurch got in touch with me on skype the other day , he was actually there when all this happened, and even while he was chatting to me live on skype our camera,s were on , there was a large shake while I was talking to him an after shock he told me, Im gratefull we have this site so that I could convey the fact that he is now all right, He couldnt get back to me at all for many days as power was on and off. my very best Glenn Baker
