Morning all, Heads up for a very well made 1960 Docu, "Blitz on Britain", this film runs for 1 hour, it shows archive film from both
British and German sources covering the defence of Great Britain during WWII, I've seen it before, if this is your interest i'ts a very

I remember the real thing.
Our house was Blitzed with a german bomb just as Mother went back in from the shelter to get some food. took us hours to dig her out and put her on a kids trolly, a plank on four old pram wheels., and dragged it to the hospital.
No emergency vehicles as too many casualties.
That is why I hate europeans,.

Same here, in our case it was a V1 flying Bomb {Doodlebug} , mum heard the engine cut out and threw us both under the the table just before the window was blown in, 17 of our neighbours were killed in the blast, we were rehoused a few miles away for the rest of the war. I still have vivid
memories of those days, such as men digging in the rubble searching for survivors, I grew up with it and knew no different, don't remember my dad until I was almost 7 when he was demobbed, cheers.

Hi Den, I was 5 when we was bombed, so too young to know about what was lost, but I know we used grey army issue blankets until well after the war.
Many years after the war, mum told me about a woman who lived over the road, her husband was in the services and she was at work when a furniture
van drew up with a crew of blokes wearing white aprons, they took all day emptying the house, they even lifted the lino, leaving bare floorboards, I can't
begin to imagine how that poor woman fet when she got home from work, there would have been a big market for furniture and linen etc, as people
were losing there homes to the bombing, cheers

I have the Luftwaffe to thank for giving me a taste for travel,having bombed us out three times in three different cities and evacuated in addition to losing everything three times, ended up in condemned cottage (over 200 years old), no water, no gas, no electric, mother told my elder sister to stop whinging, as there were people worse off, I never met them!

WE had that here on SBS TV station last year, excellent program.

I am bit too young to recall much being born in the middle of it.

But I do remember the bomb that dropped up the road, blew the front door of the house and it took six weeks before a new one was fitted.
