Well the Cuppa Tea was only in the Posher Seats like the Upper Circle some had, the rest were just normal.
But i liked the Ticky Bioscopes that served a Cool Drink Free and if you wanted for another Ticky a Sandwich was thrown in, then brought to you where there were Thin Slats in front of you to put your Drink and Sarnie on! LOL
Terrific! Double Feature Movies, a Comedy, the Newsreel, and the Serial of the day! And when all that was done, if you wanted you could just stay seated there and do it all again, as it was a Continues Thing till close time.
Many a time we Bunked School to sit there for Hours , then went home as if you had a hard day! LOL Naughty buggers we were! But full of fun!

They were indeed the days Vernon, a great show with all that thrown in.
Not like now just one movie and that is it.
Worse still you now have to pay, no going in through the back door.
But yes we often skipped out of school to see a good one, part of the system back then.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

When I was a kid, there was an old playhouse in town.In the early 40ies it was converted into a movie house.Trouble is, it had pillars all over the place. [No not pillows John]These*were holding up the roof. Trouble was, if you weren't there early, you had a seat behind one of them.Spent the whole show looking around a pillar. Don't ask about the rats.

Used to,call a similar one where I lived Denis , pillars and all, the Bug House, official name was just Picture House.
However to get in on in a Saturday afternoon was just two empty jam jars. JS....

We also had an ice rink, started by Canadian armed forces.
It had wood pillars all over the ice. These were holding up a canvas tent like roof.
Great when you needed something to hang on to.

The name Bug House seems to have been one that many places used, like the old Majestic Bioscope in Cape Town was called that. And so it was too, but good value at 8 Pennies for Continuous performances daily , so sit as long as you liked, with Serial of the day, then two Cartoons, Newsreel, and a Double Feature , added into that was a free Drink served to you at your seat! Not bad !

There were as i recall about 7 of those around Cape Town at that time.
    Cheers
